Woman Bought a Psychic Soulmate Sketch on Etsy and Met the Man in It a Week Later -

A San Diego content creator ordered a psychic soulmate sketch during a trip with friends just for fun

Days later, she went on a first date with someone who looked strikingly similar to the drawing, making it a serendipitous experience overall

What started as a lighthearted experiment with her girlfriends became a love story she'll never forget

For centuries, people have turned to psychics and oracles in search of answers. From palm readers and crystal balls to tarot cards and tea leaves, divination has long been a timeless and mysterious phenomenon.

In today's digital age, however, mystics have evolved and gone mainstream. Whether it's a love tarot reading on your TikTok feed or an Etsy witch offering her services, what was once considered taboo — like a secretive visit to a fortune teller — is now just a click away.

Curious about the mystical, San Diego–based content creator Ashley Watson, 29, and her single girlfriends purchased soulmate sketches on Etsy, saving the big reveal for a weekend getaway in Big Bear.

"I think my friend saw the idea on TikTok or something, but she brought it up to me and was like, 'How funny would it be if all the single girls did this psychic reading and we revealed them at the cabin on the big screen together?'" Watson tells PEOPLE exclusively."I loved everything about it, so it was a no-brainer. I really didn't give it that much thought. I was just like, 'Why not?'"After moving back to San Diego from New York City, Watson found herself single and feeling defeated by what she described as an "awful" dating scene. While part of her had begun to accept it, her curiosity to see what was out there remained.

When it finally came time to reveal the sketch at the cabin, Watson wasn't expecting much. But the moment the image appeared on the screen, her response was instant and to the point: "Hot, sign me up."

"I think the part that stood out to me the most was that there were three or four of us who did this, but mine was the only one that said I would meet him very soon," she adds. "I was like, 'Oh my gosh.' Part of me was like, 'I hope so.'"The Etsy listing promised more than just a drawing. It offered a portrait of a "soulmate" — described as one's future husband or wife — along with a tarot reading and a written description including everything from the soulmate's hobbies and interests to how and where you'll meet."It said zero to three months, and I was like, 'No way,'" she recalls. But the psychic wasn't wrong."In all honesty, when I saw him, I didn't even think about the psychic thing. I was just like, 'That's a hot man.' We had an amazing first date, and the chemistry was great. Everything was perfect. It wasn't until later, when I was telling everyone about him and sent my cousin a photo, that she was like, 'Doesn't he kind of look like that psychic thing you did?' And I was like, oh my god — I had totally forgotten about it."The realization hit her all at once. The man she had just gone on an amazing first date looked strikingly similar to the sketch she'd nearly forgotten. What started as a playful experiment with friends was suddenly unfolding in real life."It was eight days after that we had our first date, so it was just kind of funny, the timing of it all," she says.

Watson wasn't in a rush to tell her new boyfriend about the psychic's undeniable talent, but the uncanny resemblance eventually became too big a secret to keep."I remember like testing the waters a little bit by being like, 'Isn't this funny? This kind of looks like you,'" she recalls. "We're still doing well, we're still going strong, so I don't think it scared him too much."
