Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne redefined adult friendships in Platonic — and left fans wanting more.
Their hit Apple TV+ series premiered in 2023 and follows former best friends Will (Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne), who reconnect in middle age after Will's divorce. Their revived bond quickly spirals into chaos and hilarity as they try to balance an adolescent friendship with adult responsibilities.
Although Platonic was initially billed as a limited series, it was renewed for a second season, which premiered in August 2025. Rogen told The Hollywood Reporter that even though they discussed the show's future while filming the pilot season, he was "really nervous" about how it would be received.
"I'm not a count-your-eggs-before-they-hatch guy," the actor said in December 2023. "I really just wanted to see if we were happy with it when it came out — and if everyone else was happy with it. I was kind of nervous about how high my standards were for what we were doing, and I wanted to make sure that we could actually do it."
Rogen added, "And then once I saw that we could, I was like, 'OK, we should keep doing it.' "
The comedy's second season wrapped on Oct. 1, leaving fans wondering if the series will return. Here's everything to know about whether or not there will be a season 3 of Platonic.

Apple TV+ has not officially renewed Platonic for a third season.
Creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco initially thought Will and Sylvia's story would end with one season, and then future seasons would focus on a fresh story with a new cast. But halfway through production, they realized Rogen and Byrne were too good to give up.
"They have such amazing chemistry together, and it was such a great experience, that we decided to ask them if they would be open to doing more, and they said yes," Stoller told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2025. "And Apple, rightly so, felt like they were the show's identity. I remember they said, 'Who is going to want to watch a season two without them?' "
Delbanco explained that they had to "blow up this neat little bow" they had originally intended for the end of season 1, which would have involved Will's fiancée getting pregnant and him choosing to stay with her in San Diego.
"We had to figure out, one chapter of their life is over, so now what are they going to do?" she continued. "And through that we realized that where we first thought of the show as one snapshot of one time in their lives, we could actually tell stories about these two forever."

If Platonic was renewed, the show's main cast would likely return to reprise their roles. That would include Byrne and Rogen as well as Luke Macfarlane, who plays Sylvia's husband Charlie, and Carla Gallo, who plays her best friend, Katie.
The series' second season also introduced some new characters played by Saturday Night Live alums Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney and Aidy Bryant. Rogen and Byrne have also teased that they would love to reunite with their former Neighbors costar Zac Efron in Platonic.
"I don't understand why that hasn't come to fruition yet," the actress told The Hollywood Reporter during the series' season 2 premiere in July 2025. "Now, I have it in my head that's what we need to do."
Rogen echoed that sentiment while also adding that Ike Barinholtz — who also starred in Neighbors and worked with Rogen on another AppleTV+ show, The Studio — should be included as well.
"It would be amazing stunt casting if we get [another] season and if he would do it," Delbanco agreed. "It would be so funny."

Though the streamer hasn't given the green light for new episodes yet, Rogen told Decider in August 2025 that he would love to give audiences more of Will and Sylvia.
"I would love to keep doing Platonic," he said. "I think there are really great storylines for the season. And it's something I would love to keep doing as long as people enjoy watching it."
