Gear up for some more drama, crisis and action with Season 3 of Netflix's "The Diplomat."

The new season of the political thriller picks up right where Season 2 ended with the death of President Rayburn (Michael McKean) and Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney), described as "a terribly flawed woman," now the commander in chief.

Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), meanwhile, has accused Penn of "hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job," though her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) "may have inadvertently killed him," according to the series synopsis. However, that doesn't curb Hal's push to land Kate the vice presidency, and "Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected."

Series showrunner Debora Cahn told Netflix Tudum, "Season 3 flips the chessboard."

"In Season 3, Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want," Cahn teased.

Here's what to know about Season 3 of "The Diplomat," including the release date and cast.
