The Los Angeles Dodgers put the Philadelphia Phillies on the brink of elimination with a 4-3 win in the early game Monday to take a 2-0 NLDS lead in the best-of-five series.

The Milwaukee Brewers will try to do the same to the Cubs in the nightcap after a 9-3 blowout of Chicago in Game 1 of their NLDS.

Dodgers 4, Phillies 3

Blake Snell was brilliant. The Dodgers' bats woke up in time. And the beleaguered Los Angeles bullpen survived as the Dodgers secured a 4-3 win over the Phillies in Game 2 and took a 2-0 lead in the NLDS.

For six innings, Monday's game was locked in a pitchers' duel, as Snell and Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo traded blows from the mound. Snell didn't allow a hit until one out remained in the fifth inning. Luzardo retired 17 consecutive Dodgers batters to go into the top of the seventh knotted in a scoreless tie.

But then Luzardo cracked. Teoscar Hernández led off with a single. Freddie Freeman followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. With that, the Philly starter's night was done.

With reliever Orion Kerkering on the mound, Kiké Hernández delivered again in the postseason, like he has so many times before. He sent Teoscar Hernández home on a fielder's choice and made it safely to first as the play at the plate failed. The Dodgers then loaded and cleared the bases with a two-run single by Will Smith and an RBI knock from Shohei Ohtani, his first hit of the series.

But no lead is truly safe with the Dodgers bullpen, and things got tense late. The Phillies plated a run in the eighth, then two more off Blake Treinen in the ninth, as Nick Castellanos reached second with no outs via a two-run double that cut the Dodgers lead to 4-3. Then Alex Vesia and Roki Sasaki combined to put out the fire and secure the last three outs of the game without further damage.

The series now shifts to Los Angeles, where the Dodgers will have two chances to close out the best-of-five series at home. Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday (9:08 p.m. ET/TBS, TruTV). — Jason Owens

Aaron Ashby is already done. The Brewers have pulled Ashby midway through the second inning after he walked Matt Shaw and then gave up a single to Justin Turner. Nick Mears took his place on the mound for Milwaukee, and he quickly ended the inning.

Imanaga and the Cubs went 1-2-3 in the bottom half, so we'll head to the third inning all tied up 3-3.

Well, this game is tied. Imanaga gave up back-to-back base hits with two outs, and then Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn drilled a three-run homer of his own sky-high to left field.

Now let's head to Milwaukee, where the Cubs are already on the board thanks to a huge 3-run shot from Seiya Suzuki in the first inning. That's a dream start for Chicago, which is trying to avoid falling into an 0-2 series hole like the Phillies have done.

The Dodgers escape with the win, and they're up 2-0 in the series. Trea Turner hit a ground ball to second, and Freddie Freeman came up with a diving grab at first to complete the final out.

Max Kepler grounded into a fielder's choice, with pinch-runner Weston Wilson out at second, so the Phillies have runners at first and third with two outs.

Trea Turner is up next, and the Dodgers are switching pitchers. Here comes Roki Sasaki to try to end this for L.A.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 3:11 AM GMT+2Ryan Young

Harrison Bader hit a single to left, so Max Kepler is coming back up to the plate. The Phillies have runners at first and second now with just one out. They need a run to tie it, two to walk it off.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 3:09 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungOne down

Stott laid down a bunt, but Muncy expertly threw Castellanos out at third base. That's a huge defensive move for the Dodgers, but they still need two outs to escape with the win.

Nick Castellanos just hit in both Bohm and Realmuto, and we've suddenly got a 1-run game with no outs on the board. The Dodgers tried to challenge the call at second, but they lost.

Bryson Stott, the winning run, is now at the plate with Castellanos on second.

Vesia is coming in to try to close this thing out for the Dodgers.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 3:02 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungHere come the Phillies ... ?

This was a dream start to the final inning here for the Phillies.

Bohm hit a single to center to get on right away, and then J.T. Realmuto doubled deep to left field. The tying run (Nick Castellanos) is now at the plate.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 2:55 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungPhillies survive top of the 9th

Max Muncy strolled into second with an easy double to the wall, and Duran walked Will Smith to give the Dodgers an opportunity to add more runs, but Duran then struck out Shohei Ohtani to end the inning.

The Phillies need three runs here to tie it; otherwise, the Dodgers will have a 2-0 series lead.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 2:39 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungPhillies are on the board

Max Kepler snuck a ball into the right-field corner, and he was easily into third with a triple to give the Phillies some life. Trea Turner then hit him in with an RBI single, and Philadelphia is finally on the board.

Sheehan got out of the inning after that, though, so the Dodgers will carry a 4-1 lead into the ninth. Jhoan Duran is on his way to the mound for Philadelphia.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 2:26 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungHernández called out after review

Teoscar Hernández tried to push a base hit into a double, but he was called out at second just barely. The call was upheld after a Dodgers challenge, too.

Tanner Banks got the Phillies out of the inning quickly after that. But they are running out of time to mount a comeback here.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 2:19 AM GMT+2Ryan YoungDodgers make quick work of the Phillies

After breaking the game open in the top of the inning, Emmet Sheehan came in to take over for Blake Snell on the mound. They had no issue shutting the Phillies down there. Their 4-0 lead is safe after a 1-2-3 inning, so we'll head to the 8th.

The Dodgers weren't done after Teoscar Hernández scored the first run of the game in the seventh.

They loaded the bases from there with one out, and eventually sent everybody home for a 4-0 lead to break a scoreless tie open.

Will Smith knocked in two more runs with a two-out single off of Orion Kerkering. Shohei Ohtani then logged his first hit of the series off of Matt Stram to bring Max Muncy home for a 4-0 lead.

Kiké Hernández comes up with another big postseason RBI.

With runners on second and third, Hernández hit into a fielder's choice with one out in the seventh. Teoscar Hernández played it aggressive from third and took off for home, where there was a play at the plate

The throw was on target, but just late as Hernández snuck in under the tag of J.T. Realmuto for the first run of the game and a 1-0 Dodgers lead. The RBI is Hernández's third of the series and sixth of the postseason.

- Tue, October 7, 2025 at 1:57 AM GMT+2Jason OwensLuzardo's done after 6 mostly brilliant innings

Jesús Luzardo's night is done.

The Phillies starter retired 17 straight batters to take Philadelphia into the seventh inning in a scoreless tie. But he allowed Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman to reach second and third base on consecutive hits to start the seventh, and his night his over.

Luzardo allowed three hits and issued one walk in six innings. He struck out five. He's responsible for both baserunners in the seventh.

Blake Snell faced trouble for the first time in the sixth inning with two men on and one out after walking Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.

That brought up two-time MVP Bryce Harper with a chance to put the Phillies on the board first. But Snell worked to a 2-2 count and got him swinging on strike three with a sweeping slider off the plate. Alec Bohm then hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning, which remains in a scoreless tie after six.

Jesús Luzardo's fifth straight 1-2-3 inning included outs by Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts in the sixth.

Ohtani's still hitless in the game (0-for-3) and the series (0-for-7), and the Dodgers haven't been able to touch Luzardo since a Betts single in the first inning.

Luzardo has five strikeouts in six scoreless one-hit innings. We're watching a pitching masterclass from both starters.
