Young's attorneys said they will "not allow Lola's reputation and integrity to be called into question" in a statement shared with PEOPLE

Lola Young is taking legal action over songwriting credits.

According to the BBC, the "Messy" singer filed a lawsuit in London on Wednesday, Oct. 1, against producer Carter Lang over songwriting credits. Young, 24, filed an intellectual property court claim on behalf of Young and Sony Music Publishing, alleging that Lang claimed writing credits for four of her songs.

The four songs for which the English singer is suing Lang remain unclear.

"It is with immense disappointment, especially given recent events, that we have had no choice but to respond to recent writing credit claims from Carter Lang on four Lola Young songs by issuing legal proceedings on her behalf," a statement from her lawyers shared with PEOPLE read.

They added that the producer's claims were "strongly refuted" and they will "not allow Lola's reputation and integrity to be called into question — particularly so long after the sessions took place and agreements were put in place."

"Lola has always been authentic in her songwriting process and acknowledges songwriting contributions where appropriate. This dispute has been ongoing for several months and we look forward to the truth being established," concluded the statement.

PEOPLE reached out to Lang and did not receive an immediate response.

Lang has also collaborated with SZA, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Reneé Rapp and Rosé, among other musicians.

The lawsuit comes days after Young announced that she was "going away for a while" and cancelling "everything" following a collapse onstage mid-performance at the All Things Go Music Festival in N.Y.C. on Sept. 27.

During her set, Young mentioned that she "had a tricky couple of days."

"Sometimes life can really make you feel like you can't continue, but you know what, today I woke up and I made the decision to come here, and I wanted to be cool ... and sometimes life can throw you lemons, and you just gotta make lemonade," she told the crowd.

The day before, Young canceled her performance at Audacy's We Can Survive concert on Sept. 26.

Less than an hour after collapsing, Young gave fans an update. "Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now," she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "Thank you for all of your support, Lola xxx."

Two days later, the "Big Brown Eyes" singer shared her plans for the near future. "I'm going away for a while. It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future," she wrote on Instagram on Sept. 29. "Thank you for all the love and support."

She apologized to fans who purchased tickets for her upcoming performances and promised them a full refund.

"I really hope you'll give me a second chance once I've had some time to work on myself and come back stronger," Young concluded. "Love you all, Lola x."
