Britney Spears took to Instagram on Tuesday to air out some big feelings.
The pop star posted a lengthy, yet cryptic message on Instagram only hours after her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, dropped an except of his forthcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew which paints Spears in a less-than-flattering light.
In the excerpt of the book, due out Oct. 21, Federline, 47, recounts the way Spears, 43, would allegedly look over their sleeping sons with a knife in hand.
"They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — 'Oh, you're awake?' — with a knife in her hand," he writes in the excerpt, published in The New York Times. "Then she'd turn around and pad off without explanation.
"The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it's racing toward something irreversible," he elaborates. "From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we're getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don't change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces."
Based on the timing of Spears' post, it seems that it may be a response to Federline's claims.
"The ocean will always remain a mystery to us all, and the secrets that are left to find !!!" says Spears. "There is so much we still don't know or have yet to discover, that's how vast and beautiful Mother Nature is!!! Useless information to some, but I am actually very interested!!! The unknown and undiscovered all comes with imagination, really. Was it manifested? Or is it real?"

While her cryptic caption leaves plenty of room for interpretation, the pop star, who has experienced more than her fair share of heartbreak, made one thing clear: "Always protect your heart."
Spears and Federline, who was one of her dancers at the time, wed in 2004 in a whirlwind romance that took the world by surprise. They had two songs, Sean Preston and Jayden James, before they divorced in 2007, a year that was particularly challenging for Spears. Federline ultimately ended up with custody of the boys in 2008 at the end of a long and public custody battle.
"We haven't spoken in years," Federline said of his relationship with Spears in an interview. Despite the distance between them, Federline admits to being concerned for the star's wellbeing, and in the book he recounts learning about her often erratic behavior from their sons, now 20 and 19.
Spears' team fired back against Kevin's allegations in a statement issued to E! News on Oct. 14, suggesting that Federline's memoir is nothing more an opportunity to use her name for his own personal gain.
"With news from Kevin's book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin," a rep for Spears said. "All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir [The Woman in Me]."
Spears has disabled comments on her mysterious post, and while fans are not able to weigh in directly, it's safe to say many are left guessing as to the deeper meaning behind her words.
