Police in Oregon are searching for 78-year-old Thomas Weightman after he was reported missing by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 14
Authorities said during a brief phone call, Weightman said he had "fallen into a hole"
Weightman was last seen on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. local time
Authorities are searching for a 78-year-old man in Oregon who was reported missing by his family after he told them that he had "fell into a hole."
In a post on Facebook on Thursday, Oct. 16, the Washington County Sheriff's Office asked residents to search their properties after Thomas Weightman was reported missing on Tuesday shortly after 5:30 p.m. local time.
"On Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Forest Grove Police Department Officers responded to a report of a missing person near the intersection of Valley Crest Way and Circle Crest Drive," the post read. "Family members reported 78-year-old Thomas Weightman left their nearby residence on foot at approximately 10 a.m. but did not return home."
The police added that during a short phone call, "Thomas said he fell into a hole and was unsure of his location."

While officers have tried to find Weightman in the "remote area" with cell phone triangulation, their efforts have been unsuccessful.

Authorities say Weightman has gray hair, a gray beard, glasses and is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 165 lbs.
According to the sheriff's office, he was last seen on Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m. on NW Gales Greek Road, "wearing black shoes, blue jeans, a red flannel bottom-up shirt, and a dark colored baseball hat."
"Continued search efforts coordinated by the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) team are underway, and searchers are asking residents along Gales Creek Road for help checking their property," officials wrote.
"Specifically, SAR is asking for property owners South of NW Wilson River Highway, along NW Gales Creek Road, down to NW Mystic Drive, with an Eastern boundary of NW Shearer Road," authorities said.
People with information or any recent sightings of Weightman are asked to contact authorities' non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 and 911.
