It was a long time coming, but the moment that Blue Bloods fans were waiting for finally happened on the premiere episode of Boston Blue!
Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and his partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) finally become a romantic couple. We see the two of them together at her apartment as Danny gets the news that his son Sean (Mika Amonsen) was critically injured in a fire, and he's needed in Boston.

"Donnie insisted that we continue that story," Boston Blue creator and showrunner Brandon Margolis tells Parade. "He felt, if there was going to be a continuation of Danny Reagan's journey since we last saw him, the immediate question is: What happened when they went out for pizza? And it wouldn't be true to the character and true to the fans of the original series for us to gloss over that moment that everyone had been waiting for."
So, fans can thank Wahlberg for finally getting that intimate, albeit brief, moment of Danny and Maria as a couple.
"For us, it was an opportunity to drop back into their lives a year later, somewhat real-time from when Blue Bloods ended and pick things up in motion as they are and see where everybody landed," Margolis continues.

And then he gave us more good news about the couple. "Though we teased with Baez in the pilot, that's not the last we're going to see of her. She will be back to put a little more meat on the bone of the story of what's going on with them. So, there'll be more than just a tease."
Of course, long-distance relationships are difficult at best, so we'll see what it means for their future. But Maria wasn't the only Blue Bloods cast member to appear in the premiere of Boston Blue. Bridget Moynahan guest-starred as Erin Reagan, who came to check on Danny while he was holding vigil for Sean to wake up from his coma.

"What we can say is that we will absolutely be using legacy cast members from Blue Bloods," Boston Blue creator and showrunner Brandon Sonnier says. "We are a true expansion of the Blue Bloods universe, which means all of the lives of the characters that we've come to know and love have continued forward. And we'll be checking in with them throughout the season and series. Yes, the answer is yes, there will be visits from the Reagans."
Of course, we're hoping that Tom Selleck, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, will be among them. But time will tell!
