Is a third Hocus Pocus movie still happening? Bette Midler just offered a promising update.
The iconic actress, 79, recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she shared new insight into the progress behind the highly anticipated threequel.
"Well, you know, they sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant," she told WWHL host Andy Cohen on Thursday, Oct. 16. "So I got very excited, and now we're trying to figure out what it is and where it's going to be, and how much it's going to cost and all those logistical things."
The last time Midler discussed the Hocus Pocus 3 script was in July 2024, as Variety noted. During an appearance on the QVC+ talk show Busy This Week, she had urged Disney to expedite development on the long-awaited sequel, the magazine reported.
"I haven't seen the script, but I've heard rumblings," Midler said at the time. "I think if they're gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching — time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we're still breathing. I mean, God!"
Sean Bailey, Walt Disney Pictures' former president, revealed that "Hocus Pocus 3 is happening" in a 2023 profile with The New York Times.
The announcement didn't come as a huge surprise given the immense streaming success of Hocus Pocus 2, which became the most-watched Disney+ original film at the time it premiered.
A release date for Hocus Pocus 3hasn't been nailed down yet. While production was initially announced in June 2023, it seemed to stall out — though Hocus Pocus 2 screenwriter Jen D'Angelo confirmed it was still in the works after the WGA strike ended in September 2023.
"We're still in the story phase, we're still working on it," D'Angelo, 37, told Entertainment Weekly in October of that year. "We've been working on some ideas. It's been fun to dive back into that world, and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore. We've only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham's mother witch."
