Late-night hosts who stick together stay together.

At the top of tonight's edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert took the time to celebrate the news that Disney had announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will return to TV screens on Tuesday after previously being suspended.

"We do, like, 160 of these a year or something, and when I have the chance, it's always nice to start the show with some good news," Colbert said on Monday. "Well, just a few hours before we taped this broadcast, we got word that our long national late-nightmare is over, because Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will return to air on ABC tomorrow, Tuesday night. Come on! Wonderful news for my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff."

Naturally, Colbert couldn't skip an opportunity to make a joke about the occasion, too, so he grabbed the Emmy that he won last weekend for Outstanding Talk Show, and held it up to the camera, as he said, "I'm so happy for them, plus, now that Jimmy's not being canceled, I get to enjoy this again!" Then he quipped: "Once more, I am the only martyr in late nights. Wait, unless, CBS, you want to announce anything?" (Colbert is referring to the fact that CBS announced in July that his late-night series will end next May, claiming it was "purely a financial" decision.)

As Colbert alluded to on his show, earlier on Monday, Disney announced that Kimmel will be returning to air Tuesday, almost a week after Disney-owned ABC pulled his late-night program, Jimmy Kimmel Live, over the host's comments about the "MAGA gang" response to Charlie Kirk death.

"Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country," Walt Disney Company said in a statement Monday.

The company added, "It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."

Still, Sinclair Broadcasting Group, the largest owner of ABC affiliate stations in the country, also said on Monday that it is planning to not air the series when it returns on Tuesday.

"Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show's potential return," the broadcasting company shared in a social media post.

Colbert was one of many to swiftly protest Disney's decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live last week. He was part of a chorus that included many other current and former late-night hosts, including Conan O'Brien, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, and Jimmy Fallon.

Former President Barack Obama and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof are among those who similarly slammed the news. The latter even called for Kimmel's swift reinstatement and threatened not to work with the Disney-owned network in an Instagram post last Thursday.
