Drew Barrymore wants to work with pals Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore has a fun suggestion for a project that would reunite her with former costars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston: a remake of the 1992 dark comedy Death Becomes Her.

"We've batted around some ideas," Barrymore said in the new clip from her show. "As a joke, we say we'll make the Three's Company movie, but I'm really bullish on Death Becomes Her, a remake of that."

Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn star in 'Death Becomes Her' in 1992

The Substance-esque dark comedy she mentioned, released in 1992, starred Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Isabella Rossellini. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, it was the tale of actress Madeline (Streep), who takes an immortality treatment. It won an Oscar for its visual effects, was adapted into a Broadway show, and the film became a cult classic.

The conversation started when Barrymore, who began hosting daytime TV's The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020, was asked which actor could lure her back to the big screen. Her last major acting role was in TV's Santa Clarita Diet, which ended in 2019 after three seasons.

Not surprisingly, Barrymore's answer was Sandler, with whom she costarred in romantic comedies The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004), and Blended (2014).

"However," Barrymore added, "Adam knows that I really want to work with him and Jennifer Aniston, together. They both know that."

Barrymore costarred alongside Aniston in the 2003 ensemble He's Just Not That Into You, and Sandler has made several movies of his own with the former Friends star.

All three have teased that they would participate in a reboot of the '70s sitcom about a man and two women he's not dating shacking up together in Santa Monica, Calif. The original Three's Company starred John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, and Suzanne Somers.

In 2023, they discussed the possibility on Barrymore's show, while Aniston and Sandler promoted their collaboration for the movie Murder Mystery 2. Barrymore even volunteered to take on Joyce DeWitt's part of Janet, because Aniston didn't want to cut her hair short.

Barrymore has previously had great success remaking '70s television properties, having starred in and produced 2000's Charlie's Angels and its 2003 sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, which together took in over $523 million worldwide.
