The next Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is in theaters May 22, 2026

A new trailer offers glimpses of the big-screen continuation of filmmaker Jon Favreau's hit Disney+ series

The movie stars Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, plus Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne

Pedro Pascal and his pointy-eared pal are taking The Mandalorian to the big screen.

On Monday, Sept. 22, Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled a first trailer for the new Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Grogu ahead of its May 22, 2026 theatrical release. From director and co-writer Jon Favreau, who created the hit Star Wars series for Disney+, it's a continuation of that space series' three seasons of adventures.

In addition to Pascal, 50, returning as the titular helmeted bounty hunter (whose real name is Din Djarin), and the adorable animatronic Grogu (known colloquially as Baby Yoda), The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne.

"The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy," reads an official synopsis for the movie. "As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pascal, 50) and his young apprentice Grogu."

The new trailer shows glimpses of each of those stars, including White, 34, in an unrecognizable role as Rotta the Hutt. The character is the son of crime lord Jabba the Hutt, who has featured in the Star Wars cinematic universe since George Lucas' original 1997 hit film.

In an April 2025 interview with Extra, Pascal teased that the new movie is "one of the greatest adventure movies in the canon of all of cinema." The Fantastic Four star also called costar Weaver, 75, "an icon" and "one of the biggest movie stars of my lifetime. She's a perfect example of an actor that has stepped into every kind of genre."

Audiences at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 were treated to a first glimpse of the upcoming film in April. "When I watched [The Mandalorian], I fell in love with all the characters, especially this guy," Weaver said of Pascal then, per the official Star Wars site. "And of course Grogu stole my heart."

Favreau, 58, who co-wrote The Mandalorian and Grogu with Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni, said in a statement that he has "loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created."
