"You are one of a kind," he said of his late friend, who died on Sept. 21, 2019

Guy Fieri shared a fitting tribute to his longtime friend, the beloved chef Carl Ruiz.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, the Food Network star, 57, remembered the late chef, who died on that day in 2019 at the age of 44, in an Instagram post.
"I miss you so much my brother Chef Carl," Fieri began the caption. "You cooked, You laughed, You lit up the world, You are one of a kind."
"RIP the CUBAN," he concluded the post, referring to Ruiz's nickname as a judge on Guy's Grocery Games. He added the hashtag "#6thAnniversary."

Fieri also shared an image of Ruiz in a long fur coat reaching his arms out wide, with a cigarette in his mouth. The Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives host recreated his friend's pose in the next image, appearing to wear the exact same coat.
Earlier this year Fieri shared another Instagram tribute to mark the late chef's birthday.
"Happy 50th birthday to my brother/friend/chef Carl 'The Cuban' Ruiz," he wrote. "Miss you my brutha RIP."
In that post, Guy shared the same image of Ruiz in his fur coat, edited onto a Time magazine Person of the Year cover.

The next photo in the carousel showed Fieri and his son Ryder, 19, when he was much younger, alongside Ruiz holding a birthday cake, which reads, "Happy Birthday Carl." And the final photo depicts a smiling Ruiz riding a metal bull.
Shortly after Ruiz's death in 2019, Fieri shared a heartfelt post mourning his loss.
"I'm heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone," Fieri wrote on Instagram. "I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef."
He continued, "Over the years, I've met a lot of great people but a friend like Carl is one in a hundred million. Carl 'The Cuban' Ruiz will forever live on in my heart and in those of all who loved him."
