Lorde's her new album Virgin got an unexpected stamp of approval from a new friend – Jack Harlow.

Lorde, 28, sat down with Zane Lowe for an interview with Apple Music to talk listeners through the creative process and inspiration behind the project prior to its release. The "What Was That" singer opened up about a unique moment she shared with Harlow, 27.

"Jack Harlow was working at Electric Lady when we were there towards the end of the record and somehow ended up getting most of the album played to him. It was a very funny cool link," Lorde said of putting the final touches on Virgin at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.

The "Solar Power" singer elaborated, "He's such a sweetheart. He was like, 'Your bars – these are bars.' I was like, 'Your words, not mine.' "

She then reflected on the uniquely physical performance element she sought to bring to the upcoming album.

"There just is this sort of like rolling cadence and physicality. Within that, I'm trying to make myself laugh, I'm trying to make my eyebrow raise, I'm trying to kind of, I don't know, just keep it feeling super alive," she said.

Virgin, Lorde's fourth studio album, will in part examine the singer's gender identity journey. Lorde previously recounted a conversation about her gender with fellow pop star Chappell Roan in an interview with Rolling Stone.

"She was like, 'So, are you nonbinary now?' And I was like, 'I'm a woman except for the days when I'm a man.' I know that's not a very satisfying answer, but there's a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up," she said to the Grammy-winning "Pink Pony Club" artist.

Virgin will be released on Friday, June 27.
