It follows a young woman named Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) who finds herself in a love triangle with two brothers, Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney).

Season 1 of The Summer I Turned Pretty added big plot points to the tale—including an involved debutante ball storyline, a volleyball tournament, a character named Shayla (Minnie Mills), who becomes Steven's love interest, and the fact that Jeremiah is sexually fluid.
'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 2 Brought More Deviations From the Book
In Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, the show also deviated from Han's book, It's Not Summer Without You. The series added the characters Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), Jeremiah and Conrad's cousin and aunt, respectively, making them a major plot point in the summer house going up for sale in Cousins.
It also incorporated way more of Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Taylor (Rain Spencer) in the story, along with bringing back Cam Cameron (David Iacono) when he didn't return in the second book at all. Taylor's boyfriend, Davis, in the books was changed to Milo (Will Spencer) in the show, too, among other differences.
Additionally, Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty suggested that Belly and Conrad had sex at the summer house during their winter visit, when in the book, they did not.

In The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, the show made major tweaks to the storyline of We'll Always Have Summer to make the story better adapted for the screen.
For starters, the main plot of the story started during the summer before Belly's senior year of college; in the book, Belly was 19. Episode 1 also implied that sex was part of Belly and Jeremiah's relationship, but it isn't in the book. Additionally, viewers learn that Belly was forced to quit playing volleyball due to an injury, which led to her sports psychology major.
The Amazon Prime series also featured Steven working for Jeremiah and Conrad's dad, Adam (Tom Everett Scott), at his bank firm, where viewers met a new character named Denise (Yvonne Valadez). Meanwhile, Taylor dated a guy named Davis (Harrison Cone) but was hooking up with Steven at the beginning of the season, as Steven cheated on a girl named Mia to be with Taylor.

Also in Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly snagged a spot to study abroad in Paris for her senior year when this wasn't a plot point in the book. Jeremiah found out he couldn't graduate and needed to take more courses in the fall.
Conrad, meanwhile, got a summer clinic job—although, he was fired from his summer clinic job after mislabeling something—a plot point that did not exist in the book.
In the second episode, Belly's mom, Laurel (Jackie Chung), attended a literary conference, where she ran into Belly's dad, John (Colin Ferguson) and they ended up sleeping together at a hotel.
Steven broke up with Mia and told Taylor he loved her while driving—but she got mad, stormed out of the car in the middle of the road, and then Steven got into a car accident. This did not happen in the book at all.

Jeremiah proposed to Belly outside of the hospital without a ring before proposing for a second time in his frat house room with a ring. This is not how it went down in the books.
In the show, the entire storyline with Taylor's mom, Lucinda (Kristen Connolly) and her salon business going under after she allowed her ex to "handle" the business stuff didn't exist in the books.
Another major plot point in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 that deviated from We'll Always Have Summer is Belly's decision to move to Paris after calling off the wedding with Jeremiah. This didn't happen in the book; instead, she studied abroad in Spain. The show introduced a ton of new characters in the last three episodes, too, including her roommates in Paris and a guy named Benito (Fernando Cattori), with whom she became romantically involved.
On the eve of the Season 3 finale, it'll be interesting to see how the ending does or doesn't align with Han's book!
All three seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 are available to stream on Prime Video.
