U.S. Figure Skating/YouTubeAmerican figure skater Jon Maravilla is addressing reports that he was supposed to be on the American Airlines flight that collided with an Army helicopter. The Daily Mail claimed on Thursday, January 30, that the American pairs figure skater was scheduled to be on the plane flying to Washington D.C., but he was denied boarding due restrictions related to his dog. Maravilla clarified to the Daily Beast that he did not have a ticket for that flight.

The host cities for the men's Rugby World Cup have now also been confirmed with seven locations across the country selected to host matches. But it appears there may be one city that has missed out on hosting some of the tournament's biggest matches. Surprisingly, Brisbane, the second biggest rugby union city in the country, will not host any games past the quarter-final stages.

Former Russian world champion figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on board the doomed American Airlines plane that crashed in Washington DC. Flight 5342, which had 64 people aboard, collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter as it made its final approach to Reagan Airport after 9pm ET Wednesday. All passengers are believed to have died after the aircraft plummeted into the frigid Potomac River. More than 30 bodies have been recovered for the freezing river early Thursday, with authorities saying there are no survivors although search efforts are still ongoing.

The 23-year old has a number of clubs interested including Sunderland but Southampton want him to stay after loaning Ben Brereton Diaz to Sheffield United.
