'Hoppers' holds onto the No. 1 box office spot as 'Reminders of Him' overperforms

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pixar's"Hoppers"held onto the top slot at the box office, bouncing back with $28.5 million in its second weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, while Colleen Hoover's"Reminders of Him"added to the author's successful streak at the box office.

Associated Press

After its $45.3 million debut, The Walt Disney Co.'s "Hoppers" release dipped a modest 37% in its follow-up weekend, a promising sign for an animated movie hoping to have strong legs through March. The Pixar original, about a young woman who transforms into the body of a beaver to help defend a pond from development, is hoping to keep attracting audiences with good reviews (94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and strong audience scores (an "A" CinemaScore).

While many of Pixar's sequels have been blockbusters on arrival — like 2024's"Inside Out 2"($1.7 billion worldwide) — their originals have recently needed time to get going. In 2023,"Elemental"launched with a disappointing $29.6 million but went on to gross a hefty $496.4 million globally.

"Hoppers," which has taken in $164.7 million globally thus far, has a long way to go to match that, but it's off to a good start. It faced little direct new competition this weekend. The upcoming Amazon MGM sci-fi adventure"Project Hail Mary,"however, will soon take up IMAX screens and compete for family moviegoers.

Universal's "Reminders of Him" debuted in second place this weekend with a better-than-expected $18.3 million. The film, starring Maika Monroe as a woman attempting to rebuild her life after prison, is the third Colleen Hoover adaptation to reach the big screen, following 2024's "It Ends With Us" ($351 million worldwide for Sony) and 2025's "Regretting You" ($91 million for Paramount).

"Reminders of Him," which cost about $25 million to make, got poor reviews (56% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and notched a not-great "B" CinemaScore with audiences. But the film, the first from a screenplay co-written by Hoover, extends the bestselling author's popularity with moviegoers.

"Undertone,"a micro-budget horror movie from A24, opened with $9.3 million. The film, written and directed by Ian Tuason, has been touted as A24's best horror film since Ari Aster's "Hereditary" (2018), one of the movies that helped put the indie studio on the map. With a budget of just $500,000, "Undertone" makes particular use of sound design in a one-setting tale about a paranormal podcaster (Nina Kiri) caring for her dying mother.

After its disappointing debut, Warner Bros."The Bride!"plummeted in its second weekend, dropping 70% with just $2.1 million. The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed riff on "The Bride of Frankenstein" cost about $80-90 million to produce, but so far has grossed just $11.3 million domestically.

Oscarweekend is often slow in theaters, with the industry's attention largely focused on Sunday's Academy Awards. But the trio of moderate successes in "Hoppers," "Reminders of Him" and "Undertone" lifted moviegoing ahead of Hollywood's biggest night.

The year was 1980, and she was watching him perform in Sam Shepard's playCowboy Mouthin Los Angeles. "I just thought — 'Well, there he is.' It was obvious to me that I'd see him again."

Madigan and Harris welcomed daughter Lily Dolores Harris in 1993. She followed her parents into the family business, graduating from San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater's MFA program in 2020.

"I always strive for simplicity, truth, and humor in my work, because nothing kills energy and story more than taking yourself or a situation too seriously, or trying to make it something that it's not," she told theACT blogin 2020. "I am constantly seeking the magic in my art."

Lily has appeared on an episode ofChicago Medand in both short and feature films. In 2025, she and Harris worked together in the shortOff the Horse, playing a father and daughter.

Over their more than four decades of marriage, Harris and Madigan have worked together many times, including in movies likePollockand numerous stage productions.

"We both really enjoy what we do and it's really fun to work together," Harris told PEOPLE in 2025. "It's because you know each other, you can talk about the work, collaborate, ask each other questions and penetrate the material together. You trust and love each other, andit's fun to be together doing what you love."

That feeling goes way back to thebeginning of their relationship. ''The acting thing is so intimate and personal,'' Harris told theChicago Tribunein 1985. ''If we're not working together ... you can't really talk about your day very well. When you're working together, though, there's so much that is shared, so much unspoken thought and emotion that goes into the work, that it really draws you closer."

Madigan agreed, adding that it's much easier to do romantic scenes with her real-life partner. "The closeness of being married gives us the ability and the freedom to do those kinds of things. I mean, with another actor you'd have to spend a lot of time and energy getting to know them first," she said.

After connecting and becoming a couple, Harris said he learned a lot from Madigan aboutemotional connection and how to show up for each other. "When we first met, she said, 'Ed, you've got to talk to me and let me know what's going on with you,' " he told PEOPLE in 2025. "And I was one of those guys that's like, 'What do you mean? I'm here and I love you. Why do I have to tell you what I'm feeling?' "

"She kind of helped me realize that I have a certain responsibility as a human, being married to her, to open up and be present," Harris added.

At the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in January 2026, Madigan told PEOPLE that she and Harris"don't have"any big secret to making their marriage work for over 40 years. "We just love each other and we work really hard at that and in our work," she said.

She has since been nominated for an Oscar for the role, a recognition last earned in 1986 for her work inTwice in a Lifetime.Madigan's performance inWeaponshas also earned her Critics' Choice and Actor Award wins, as well as a Golden Globe nomination.

"We've both been doing it a really long time, so we're just both having a good giggle about it. We're both enjoying it," Madigan told PEOPLE after her Golden Globe nomination was announced in December 2025.

"I think really what it means is that if you get an opportunity to work on a wonderful script and it's a great part, regardless of who you are, and where you live, and what age you are. If you're an actor, you wait for those opportunities and moments, so it just feels great," she added.

Decked out in blue jeans and maroon sweatpants, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph riotously reunited with co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne and Ellie Kemper during a laid-back afternoon rehearsal on the eve of theAcademy Awards.

The all-star cast is set to present atthe March 15 ceremony, in celebration of their bawdy hit comedy's 15th anniversary. The women's rapport was on sweet display as they giddily hung out on the Dolby Theatre stage.

"There's Stellan! Hey, Stellan!" Byrne said as she walked out before the run-through began, waving toStellan Skarsgård'sempty seat marked only by a giant printout picture.

Byrne's full-throated laugh rang out as she joked around between bits with McCarthy, who playfully pretended to sucker punch the Oscar-nominated actress in the stomach. On the other side of the stage, Kemper and Rudolph were spotted dancing and twirling in place, while Wiig was nobly tasked with handing out Oscar statuettes to stand-in "winners."

"I'm so excited to accept this award from five of my favorite actors," one man said as he held up a little gold man, breathlessly reciting a mock acceptance speech.

Other stand-ins effusively thanked everyone from their parents to Michael B. Jordan, while one woman appeared to get emotional as she exclaimed, "I was not expecting this! I am absolutely shocked and grateful."

Every year, the Oscar rehearsals offer a unique opportunity for journalists to get a peek at some of Hollywood's biggest names at their most dressed-down. Last year's best actor winner, Adrien Brody ("The Brutalist"), rehearsed onstage with orange-framed sunglasses dangling from his collar, while wearing a dark gray T-shirt emblazoned "Hollywood."

With a few notable exceptions, these aren't always the gowns that make the Oscars best-dressed lists. For the most part, the frocks that have faced the audience from the winner's podium aren't particularly daring or even memorable. But they get a very important job done very well: They let the winners shine. 2009 | Best supporting actress: Penelope Cruz in vintage Pierre Balmain | Cruz won for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and scooped up her Oscar in a romantic strapless gown with her hair swept up in a chignon. <p style=2014 | Best supporting actress: Lupita Nyong'o in Prada | The "12 Years A Slave" star hit the red carpet wearing a custom light blue silk georgette gown with a deep V-neck top and low-cut sides. Javier Bardem showed up in sweatpants and roamed around the theater shaking people's hands, jestingly assuring one Oscars producer, "I promise! I will learn the lines!"

Casually chatting with reporters, Academy CEO Bill Kramer teased this year's leafy, earth-toned set design for the ceremony, which aims to provide a Zen, grounded space for Hollywood's best and brightest to gather. (Anecdotally, the Dolby's crisp air conditioning also offers a much-welcome respite from the unseasonal California heat.)

Additionally, Kramer hinted at a mind-blowing "Sinners" performance and epic opening from returning host Conan O'Brien, who hilariously sprinted through a familiar sequence at rehearsals.

Although we're sworn to secrecy, let's just say we doubt he'll get ripped to shreds.

Dad Deletes Email About $50M Powerball Win, Then Learns It's For Real After Giving Lottery Official a Call

NEED TO KNOW

  • The husband and father deleted the original email informing him of his win, but when he got a second message, he decided to investigate

  • As for the winnings, he says he plans to use some of the money to give back and "help the community"

An Australian man nearly missed his chance to become a multi-millionaire because when he first saw an email informing him that he won a life-changing lottery prize, he thought it was junk.

Lottery officials said theytried to call the man to inform himthat he won a prize worth 50 million Australian Dollars (about $35M) but the number they had was outdated, which is what led them to try emailing him instead — but it still took two messages to get his attention.

"Is it true?" he asked lottery officials after giving them a call them on Thursday, March 12, while watching the an Australian Football League game on TV.

"I actually saw your first email and I didn't even open it - I assumed it was junk and deleted it," added the man, who chose to remain anonymous. "But then I received another email, and I thought, 'Maybe I'll check the app.' "

"I'm in shock," he added of the win "I'm just sitting here watching the footy with my son. When my wife gets home, have I got news for her!"

The Victoria man's winning numbers were 5, 6, 18, 9, 14, 4 and 13, while the crucial Powerball number was 14, a number of particular significance for him.

"I normally use our birthday numbers for my tickets, but I had a small win the other day and I thought I'd select some random numbers for tonight's draw," the man said. "I decided to choose number 14 for the Powerball number as it's my favorite football number."

The man says he plans to use some of the money to help others.

"I always used to say to my friends and family that if I won $50 million, I would dedicate myself to helping others," he said. "It's almost like I put it in the universe! I'd like to look at some kind of work that helps the community."

"I never thought we'd be able to buy our very own home after renting for such a long time!" he added. "We're not going to buy anything out of this world. We'll continue to be humble and buy a house in our suburb."
