Millwall ban Mail Sport from matches and press conferences after reporting how club's fans loudly chanted 'let him die' while Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta was being treated following horror 'karate kick' tackle

Millwall have banned the Daily Mail from attending the club's matches and press conferences for reporting how their fans loudly chanted 'let him die' while Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta was surrounded by paramedics and being fitted with an oxygen mask on the pitch at Selhurst Park. Mateta required 25 stitches after the Championship side's goalkeeper Liam Roberts hurtled into him at speed during Saturday's controversial FA Cup clash in what has been widely described as a 'karate kick' head-high challenge.

SIR CLIVE WOODWARD: This is how Maro Itoje has gone to another level as England captain, the five must-haves that make him a truly great leader and how he can put himself in pole position for the Lions armband

The biggest compliment Maro Itoje should take about the fine job he has done as England captain in this Six Nations is that there is no debate in the media about him doing the role. Itoje has been one of the first names on the England teamsheet for years now. We all know he is a truly world-class player. His achievements in the game merit that description. But his elevation to captain ahead of Jamie George at the start of this year was a big decision for Steve Borthwick to make as head coach.

Millwall must own their horror tackles and vile chanting rather than shooting the messenger by banning the Press, writes OLIVER HOLT

The last time I went to The Den, as an away fan, was 15 years ago this month. I'm a stadium dork so I keep records. I remember it fairly clearly anyway, especially the walk from South Bermondsey station to the away turnstiles. Not that there were any problems. It was just that it felt like a scene from Escape from New York or some other dystopia: the sparse band of Stockport County fans who had made the journey south was directed to the ground through a long wire mesh cage that seemed to have no end.

Man United face Europa League striker crisis as starlet Chido Obi is ineligible to play in remaining fixtures after club failed to register the teenager

Ruben Amorim has been handed a fresh blow as 17-year-old academy striker Chido Obi is not eligible to face Real Sociedad in Thursday's Europa League last-16 clash. Manchester United's squad is already threadbare and Amorim has come to rely on the teenager to provide him with an attacking option off the bench, which had two empty spots against Fulham on Sunday, such is the mounting injury crisis. Obi came on and made a real impact in Sunday's FA Cup and almost scored the winner for United in extra-time, forcing a brilliant save out of Bernd Leno.

Millwall keeper Liam Roberts faces wait to learn fate over length of ban for HORROR challenge on Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta

Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts is currently awaiting the Football Association's (FA) decision on whether his standard three-match suspension will be extended following a dangerous tackle on Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta during their recent FA Cup fifth-round match. The incident occurred just five minutes into the game, leading to Roberts' dismissal and raising concerns about player safety. However, referee Michael Oliver needed to use VAR to recognise Roberts' challenge was a red card offence.
