Gary Lineker has questioned the state Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United in after their FA Cup fifth round defeat by Fulham. The holders saw one of two unlikely avenues to European football next term slam shut on Sunday night after a penalty shootout loss to the Cottagers at Old Trafford. It is the latest blow in a miserable campaign for the Red Devils that sees them languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and struggling for any consistency under Ruben Amorim.

The families of NRL star Jack de Belin and his friend Callan Sinclair are furious a former police officer who has admitted lying under oath has successfully had his name suppressed. 'Office A' admitted giving false evidence after taking the stand during the St George Illawarra player's explosive rape trial in Wollongong District Court in 2020. The former detective senior constable gave evidence in de Belin's prosecution after investigating allegations that the NRL star and fellow footballer Callan Sinclair had raped a 19-year-old Wollongong woman in 2018.

Man United's failure to sign a top striker is inexcusable and Ruben Amorim has been left with a Frankenstein's monster of a squad... but it could be good news for Chido Obi, writes CHRIS WHEELER

With more than an hour gone at Old Trafford and no end in sight to Rasmus Hojlund's marathon goal drought, Ruben Amorim looked to his bench and summoned Chido Obi. Off went Hojlund who has now gone 18 hours and 38 minutes without a goal since his double against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League way back in mid-December. The only time he threatened Fulham's goal in this FA Cup tie came in the 14th minute when Christian Eriksen crossed from the left and Hojlund got free of Calvin Bassey to meet the ball first time at the near post but skied it high into the Stretford End.

The NRL is facing the prospect of postponing the Round 1 clash between The Dolphins and South Sydney with one player already saying they are unwilling to risk flying into a cyclone for the match. Brisbane is bracing for a rare weather event this week as Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaches the south-east Queensland coast, threatening to disrupt both NRL and AFL fixtures in Brisbane. South Sydney forward Jai Arrow has made it clear he is unwilling to land in Queensland if the cyclone's timing endangers the team's flight, declaring, 'there's no chance I'll fly into the cyclone.
